I love seeing professional collaboration in our tight knit community. As a real estate broker I depend on constant collaboration, starting with referrals, counting on appraisers, other brokers, sellers and of course the client. We all work as a team, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Homegrown Families is a local business that supports and works with families. I love and appreciate their ideals and goals. Families need lots of love and support. That is what Homegrown Families gives. If you are a new family or have a little one on the way, I encourage you to look into their program and learn how their services can benefit you. They are a growing company who support growing families, expanding, collaborating and educating us along the way.

Asheville’s Homegrown Babies have opened the Homegrown Families Health and Education Center, expanding offerings to the Homegrown Families Health and Education Center, who opened its doors at 201 Charlotte Street on April 1st.  Longtime trusted childbirth education and doula company, Homegrown Babies, created the center to expand their services and to provide more support and education to growing families.

Familiar offerings of childbirth education, postpartum classes, doula services, and placenta encapsulation are complemented by independent practitioners offering acupuncture, massage, physical therapy, craniosacral therapy and counseling services.  Some services are offered in Spanish.

“I’m passionate about building relationships, creating connection, and supporting women and families in cultivating courage.  Having our own space to do this good work is super exciting!” commented Chama Woydak founder and co-owner of Homegrown Babies. Chama has been teaching childbirth classes in Asheville for 14 years, and has been attending births as a certified doula since 1999.  Her business partner, Jen Chandlee has been a birth, postpartum, and lactation professional since 1994.  Jen’s teaching focuses on the postpartum time, making the two a complementary team.  “Having professional postpartum doula support can have a positive impact on breastfeeding success, postpartum mood issues, and parents overall confidence in taking care of their newborn.  We ensure that new moms are getting the rest, nutrition, and support that they need to transition smoothly into their new role,” Jen says.

Chama and Jen are supported by a skilled, caring group of birth and postpartum doulas within Homegrown Babies.  At the Homegrown Families Health and Education Center they are joined by an amazing collection of integrative practitioners.  The center provides comprehensive support during all phases of life.

“Our classes are about parents deepening their connections with each other, their babies, their care providers.  The goal is to set a firm foundation for them to begin their first steps confidently into parenthood.” Says Chama.  “Now with the new center, we are able to bring that sense of empowerment and connection into other aspects of life too.  We can stay with families as they grow and change, beyond the moment of birthing their children.  We are thrilled to be able to contribute to our community in these meaningful ways.”

The move into their new location at 201 Charlotte street happened fast, and within 30 days they needed a sign. Asheville’s Signarama was happy to oblige. “I was the typical client, changing everything last minute.  Arlene and Laura were great; they worked with me and didn’t miss a beat.  Under crazy deadlines, they designed and produced our wonderful sign.  I cannot recommend them highly enough.”

We asked Chama what is next for Homegrown Babies and the Homegrown Families Health and Education Center. “Our goals are to provide classes online, and to bridge the gap within our entire community, working with various community leaders and organizations.  We hope to provide education and support to underserved populations and to continue to help empower growing families from all walks of life.”

Homegrown Families Health and Education Center provides comprehensive services in Asheville and the surrounding areas. Homegrown Babies, housed within, offers birth and postpartum education, doula services during birth and the postpartum time, lactation education, sibling classes, placenta encapsulation, and support groups.  It is our honor and joy to work together to provide women and families with full spectrum care from pregnancy to parenthood.  Our loving staff have over 50 years of combined experience and training.
