Montford Historic District
AshevilleWelcome to Montford

Montford is Asheville’s most Historic Neighborhood. Located just north of Downtown, a portion of Montford is a National Register Historic District.
Consisting of beautiful architecture, a historic cemetery, and amazing food (Nine Mile is a team favorite!), it’s no wonder Montford is such a treasured destination in the Asheville area.
The area boasts many parks including Montford Park, Hummingbird Park, Magnolia Park & Playground, and the Tempie Avery Community Center which includes a playground, ping-pong, a climbing wall, and is great for watching the sun set.
Each summer, the Montford Park Players bring crowds to Hazel Robinson Amphitheatre for the outdoor Shakespeare Festival.
Along with the seasonal shows at Hazel Robinson Amphitheatre, Montford hosts many other festivals and events throughout the year. Check out the Annual Greek Festival, hosted by Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Asheville, usually sometime in September. This event includes traditional Greek food, dancing, and music! There is also the Montford Music and Arts Festival and Porch Fest!
When Tall John’s first opened its doors on October 19th, 2022, Chef/Owner Trevor Payne had a clear vision for what they wanted to accomplish: classic, delicious, expertly crafted food and drinks served in a friendly, relaxed environment. Inspired by the restaurant’s location, a strikingly tall historic building in the heart of Montford, the two set out to create a space where neighbors and visitors alike could enjoy an experience that is at once special and unpretentious.
“I genuinely wanted to approach the location and project from the standpoint of what would best support the Montford neighborhood. What did Montford need? What would be complementary to what exists already here? How do we make people comfortable and welcome in the restaurant? How do we make that genuinely the scope of the project?â€

While Montford has plenty to offer, the neighborhood’s close proximity to Downtown Asheville also gives you easy walking access to Downtown restaurants and bars as well as local grocery stores.
Next time you’re in the area, notice the beautiful Bed & Breakfasts, read about the former Highland Hospital that once housed Zelda Fitzgerald, and end your day with Manhattan Service for Two at the local watering hole, Little Jumbo.
Montford real estate is sprinkled with craftsman and modern new builds, funky and charming bungalows and historic homes ranging from Victorian and Queen Anne to Neoclassical and Colonial Revival.
